Date (#KuwentongJollibee)

“This is by far the most heart-wrenching video Jollibee has made so far.” [1]

That’s how one reviewer, Angeline Rodriguez of “When in Manila,” described the third installment of the #KuwentongJollibee TV commercial. It was the story of a boy who had set a Valentine’s date for his mother on behalf of his father who died already. She added, “‘Date’ explores the grim realities of life and love, yet brings to light the beautiful gift of endless love.” [2] According to Celina Tan, the Brand PR Specialist of Jollibee,

I hope everyone understands that the Kwentong Jollibee Valentine Series videos weren’t released just to make people sad or cry. These stories show how the purest form of love itself can appear in so many ways. Celebrate the joy of love, whatever kind it may be. [3]

What could be purer than the love that the Lord has for His people?

Even though they have backslidden away from Him, God just won’t give up on them. He even offered spiritual healing for those who would repent and return to Him.

Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for your sins have brought you down. … The Lord says, “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever. … O Israel, stay away from idols! I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green; all your fruit comes from me.” (14:1, 4, 8, New Living Translation. Emphasis added)

God’s love for us knows no bounds. It is a faithful, steadfast love. It never gives up on us.

In the book of Lamentations (what an apt title!), the prophet Jeremiah rued the divine judgement that Judah reaped due to her disobedience to God. Yet while the tears in his eyes almost blinded him, Jeremiah did not lose sight of God’s love for His people.

God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left. (Lamentations 3:22-24, The Message. Emphasis added)

Indeed, we must celebrate God’s enduring love for us. Don’t let your sins and shortcomings keep you from enjoying His love. Return to Him and He will receive you back.
